She teaches Jazzercise in her spare time. That’s what she really wants you to know. Motivating others is what Terri-Lynn Kalhagen considers to be a priority in her life. What she might not realize however is that the television shows that she is a spokesperson for may also be doing just that. She takes people to some of the most beautiful places in the world, many of which are in her own back yard, and encourages the viewer to get out and live your best life. Besides being in front of the camera she works behind the scenes as executive producer and still photographer

Tony Kalhagen’s first venture into television came as a music composer for nature based videos. He quickly developed his own programs and became the camera man, editor and musician. A passion for being uncomfortable has lead this composer turned videographer into the world of producing adventure travel shows. A limited number of live concerts are performed each year on the West Coast of the United States.

You can learn a lot about people's interests by peering into their garage. Think about it. Isn't that the place where you store a lot of personal gear? In a typical garage, one will perhaps find a bike or two, maybe a set of golf clubs, a couple tennis racquets, you might find a baseball bat and some mittens, even finding an old bowling ball is not out of the ordinary. But I have some friends whose garage looks like base camp for a national geographic expedition. They got the snowshoes, 5 million backpacks of every size, high-end camcorders, kayaks, wet suits, fins, and all sorts of contraptions.

It was during my annual "pilgrimage" to Gold Beach Oregon three weeks ago that I was privy to the contents of said "base camp", if you will. Its owners are my dear friends The Kalhagens, Tony & Terri-lynn. They are former Sacramentans living in Oregon for the last 4 years. All that typical garage gear I first mentioned above? Nowhere to be found. These folks specialize in extreme outdoor lifestyles. They don't take weekend getaways to say Carmel or Palm Beach like everybody else. No, no. These guys take one-month expeditions into the jungles of South America, or
stare into the mouths of huge whales in the icy waters off Alaska, and more.

The Kalhagens collect rare plants from all over the world. Their yard is a little botanic garden. Tony showed me quite a beautiful looking plant I had never seen before, and I remarked how perfect for boiling and making tea. Oops. Bad idea. He quickly told me that the plant is used by shamans in South America. So potent, it'll put you in a deep coma-like
state. Can anyone say Zombie?

What’s surprising, about the couple, given their extreme outdoor nature, is their passion for the arts and music, their hip urbane sensibility and incredible creative minds. They film and edit interesting travel videos from all the globetrotting they do every year. Tony in particular, is an accomplished musician and composer of ambient music. In fact, on the night before we returned to California, he did an impromptu performance in his backyard bluff overlooking the Pacific
Ocean, amidst a cozy bonfire, and sumptuous appetizers....
